Bonnie B. Blomberg, PhD, to visit WMed in October for Seminars in Investigative Medicine

The newest slate of speakers for Seminars in Investigative Medicine, a monthly seminar series at the medical school that attracts a veritable who鈥檚 who in the field of immunology, will kick off in October when Bonnie B. Blomberg, PhD, visits WMed.

Dr. Blomberg will present 鈥淐ontributors to Vaccine Response: Aging, Obesity, and Inflammation鈥 from noon to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 17, in TBL 2 at the W.E. Upjohn M.D. Campus in downtown Kalamazoo.

A free lunch will be available from 11:45 a.m. to noon and Dr. Blomberg鈥檚 presentation will begin promptly at noon. The event is free and open to the public and CE and MEDU credit is available.

Dr. Blomberg is a professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She earned her bachelor鈥檚 degree in biology and her PhD in Immunology from the University of California, San Diego, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Basel Institute for Technology in Switzerland and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Center for Cancer Research.

Dr. Blomberg鈥檚 area of expertise is cellular and molecular immunology with a particular focus on B lymphocytes and aging. Her laboratory has developed molecular biomarkers for optimal B lymphocyte function, which decrease with age in mice and humans. Recently, she has extended her studies to the contributors to inflammation, including obesity.

Dr. Blomberg has been a frequent advisor to the World Health Organization on aging and the immune system. She also is a member of the American Association of Immunologists (AAI) and she serves on the editorial board of Aging Cell.

Dr. Blomberg is part of an impressive slate of speakers for Seminars in Investigative Medicine for the 2018-2019 academic year.
